As time progresses, the characters get old, and don’t change in any way. After a while, people get tired of wasting time on a show that stagnates, and abandon it. The shows mentioned above are infamous for meandering through filler episodes at a snail’s pace, taking time to sniff the roses, while everyone is waiting to move on with the ride. “Filler” refers to episodes of anime that have nothing to do with the main plot. The shiny gloss of action and goofiness wears off, and the viewer is left with nothing but dull filler. However, while these shows attract new viewers (especially children and adolescents), there’s a problem. These series are by far some of the most well-known in the west, reaching into even non-anime viewer bases. Dragonball Z, Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach.
